A quick google search of “latin females streoytypes” brings up images https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/news/dating-blogs/ of scantily- clad olive colored, raven haired, purple- lipped, curvy women. This fetishization of Latinas in the media is n’t only embarrassing, but it also has serious implications. It exacerbates bias and can lead to bigotry. It can even advertise dating violence and enhance physical harassment of adolescent women.

The otherness and fetishizing of latina carcasses turns them into sheer things to be won and showcased. This is not to say that there are n’t some positive stereotypes of latina women, but the majority of portrayals in our mediascape leave out a whole community. This typecasting of latinas can reduce their potential by internalizing the image that world puts forth of them.
